Lionel Andres Messi was born on June 24th, 1987. He started playing soccer when he was only five years old with a team in Grandoli where he eventually worked his way up to playing for Newell's Old Boys from age 10-13. During this time he was diagnosed with a growth hormone deficiency that required costly medical treatments which put an incredible financial strain on his family. In spite of this challenge, FC Barcelona saw potential in Messi and offered him a contract as well as treatment for his condition – so his family moved to Barcelona in 2000 so that he could join Barca’s Youth Academy.
In 2004, Messi made his official debut with FC Barcelona and soon began gaining worldwide attention as one of the best young players at the time. By 2008 he had already scored 100 goals for Barca’s first team making him the youngest player ever to reach such a milestone in Spain’s top league La Liga. Throughout his career with Barca he helped the team win 4 Champions League titles and 8 Spanish League Championships among many other trophies and awards.
Throughout Messi's storied career, some of his most remarkable accomplishments include: winning 6 Ballon d'Ors (the highest individual honor given in soccer); setting numerous goal-scoring records; winning 8 Spanish League titles; being awarded FIFA World Player of The Year 3 times; winning UEFA Best Player Award 5 times; helping Barcelona achieve its place as one of Europe's most successful teams ever; and consistently delivering outstanding performances week after week – thus cementing himself as one of the greatest footballers ever.
From overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds during his childhood to leading a successful international career – Lionel Messi is indeed a source of inspiration for any person facing adversity in their life.
