Anger Management

Anger is a normal emotion that we all experience from time to time, but it can be harmful when not managed in a healthy way. If you find yourself dealing with frequent anger outbursts, it may be beneficial to take steps to learn how to control your emotions. Here are some strategies to help you gain control over your anger:

1. Take Time for Self-Care - When you are feeling angry or overwhelmed, make sure you take time to look after yourself and relax. This could mean going for a walk or having a relaxing bath, listening to music or watching something lighthearted on television. Whatever it is that helps you unwind and refocus your energy on something more positive will do the trick!

2. Take Deep Breaths - Deep breathing can help regulate your heart rate and lower stress levels, making it an effective way to manage anger. To practice deep breathing, start by inhaling slowly and deeply through your nose for four seconds. Hold the breath for four seconds before exhaling through your mouth for eight seconds. Do this for several minutes until you start to feel calmer.

3. Challenge Your Negative Thoughts - Pay attention to the negative thoughts and beliefs that may contribute to feelings of anger and work on challenging them instead of simply believing them without question. It may help if you write these thoughts down so you can address them more effectively by coming up with healthier alternatives that promote peace rather than tension. 
4. Connect With Others - Connecting with someone who can offer a supportive ear may help provide relief from angry feelings in the moment and also help identify triggers of frustration and deeper issues which may be underlying anger management difficulties over the long term. If talking things out isn’t an option at the moment, try journaling or expressing yourself through art or music as another way of processing what is going on internally in order to gain greater control over feelings of anger. 

Managing anger is never easy but it is important in order to prevent further damage from being caused both internally and externally as a result of uncontrollable emotions getting the better of us.
